Sponsorship Agreement Holder (Sah)

A Constituent Group (CG) is a group that has been authorized in writing by the SAH to act on its behalf for the sponsorship of refugees. An SAH may authorize any number of CGs to sponsor as part of its agreement and to assist sponsored refugees. Each SAH sets its own criteria for CG recognition. The CGs have the following characteristics: the sponsorship contract allows SAHs to sponsor a number of refugees each year for resettlement in Canada through the Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) program. Canada has an agreement with the United States whereby people who wish to apply for refugees must do so in the first safe country they arrive in. This means that if you enter Canada at a land border from the United States, you cannot apply for a refugee in Canada (with exceptions, z.B. if you have a family in Canada). A Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) is a registered organization that has signed an agreement with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for refugee resettlement. An SAH may decide to help refugees on its own or to cooperate with other members of the Community, either informally or through formal co-sponsorship (for example. B as a constituent group). Since 2012, the federal government has assigned each SAH a maximum number of people that it can apply for each year as a sponsor, with additional restrictions on applications from certain visa offices.

When an organization signs a sponsorship contract, it assumes legal responsibilities listed in the sponsorship agreement. These include: Canada is the first country in the world to have a refugee assistance program in which individuals and communities are directly involved in the resettlement of foreign refugees. It has become a model for other countries around the world. As part of a private sponsorship, the support group has direct knowledge of certain refugees or families abroad who have been alerted to them. Individuals who qualify as refugees in the following two classes can be sponsored under the PSR: A Sponsoring Agreement Holder (SAH) program is a registered organization that has signed a sponsorship agreement with the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
